The main subject of my collection of portraits is Ashleigh. Ashleigh and I are friends. She is funny smart and enjoys reading. I took these photos in an open field. I tried to keep the angles simple and as natural looking as possible. I only her to hold the book and read it, or at least pretend to. One of the challenges that I encountered was finding the right angle. At first, I was directing my subject on the poses she should do but, they all came out looking staged and this was not what I wanted. After a while I just sat there in front of her and took many pictures of her as I could and eventually they started to turn out as natural. I also found it challenging to work with a book. Should it frame her face or should it be a prop? I decided that it was best to frame her face with the book in "Outlook".
